People believe that in Russia, nobody smiles. They believe Russians are so inexperienced at smiling at strangers to the extent that the world’s cups held in their country in 2018, They were taught in a class how to smile at foreigners.
Again, advertising agencies would put up posters on subways to remind passerbys that smiling is the cheapest way to improve your looks and life.
Also, people in Russia have started groups and therapy sessions known as Laughing Yoga.
Specialist exposed that one of the reasons why they don’t laugh much could be as a result of –

They grow up in extreme cold weather and when it’s freezing, their teeth can get cold and it can hurt.

Russians fought in so many wars, specialists thinks it affected future generations. It has become a behavioral pattern for them to not trust strangers. Normally, you shouldn’t smile with people you don’t trust.
In Russia, smiling represents something different.
If you smile at people for no reason, you are seen as fake or rude. If you meet a stranger and you smile them, they may even think you’re just making fun of them. In Russia, you only smile at your family and friends, and most importantly, you smile when you have a good reason and you truly mean it.
Not all Russians have difficulty with smiling, It is safe to say, it is bad to put a stereotype on people, to judge people based on a small picture.

I think the fact Russians smile less, make them honest and direct. They only smile when they truly mean it. In a world were fake smiles and pretence, it would do us some good to have honest people who don’t pretend.
