World War Two –The Battle of Britain
May 1940, Hitler shocks the world by launching blitzkrieg attacks against the Netherlands, Belgium and France.
As the crisis unfolds, Winston Churchill has appointed British Prime Minister.
British troops marches to France to protect their last remaining ally in Europe are forced into a humiliating retreat.
The shock of the defeat is absolutely enormous. And the British Expeditionary Force finds itself cornered against the one surviving channel port which is Dunkirk. The German war machine appears unstoppable at this time.
Britain and your empire stand alone against Hitler’s armies. But Britain is unsure about a potential invade. The Nazis were astonished to have taken France as quickly as they did.It kind of left Hitler with a problem. what to do next. Hitler’s long term plan was always to go after the Soviet Union.
He was quite happy to make peace with Britain. Effectively, he would be offering the British immunity from invasion.
Some members of Churchill’s War Cabinet continue to push for a deal with Hitler.Churchill refuse to negotiate. He doesn’t want Britain to look weak in global eyes.
One thing Churchill understood about the British people is that they were quite sleepy and then persuaded them afterwards that they had done something amazing. He made the entire Britain believe they were fighting for a greater course.
Churchill was concerned. He said the German Navy will soon have the large French fleet at their disposal. He reluctantly instructs the Royal Navy to see the main French fleet and good on the coast of Algeria. Over 300 French servicemen are killed
–The attack on a former ally, his most hateful decision.French fleet can play no part in a German invasion now.
The Attack sends a clear message Hitler, it it now obvious Britian wants to fight. For Hitler hearing about the Royal Navy was vexed. His hope for a deal now seem unlikely. He knows the Churchill won’t negotiate unless he thinks the German invasion is a real possibility.
Now Hitler is thinking, he can attack by crippling Britain’s supply lines. And drawing out the enemy air force.
The Germans was probably the most formidable Air Force in the world at the time. It Out numbered the RAF in terms of front lines.
109 the single engine fighter plane is without question the best in the world in the summer of 94.
And arguably the earliest taste for the final thing, while he should have been really focusing on the job and become British defenses in this day simply believe that if they threw an Air Force as strong as Britain was going to be destroyed by a single knockout blow
10th of July 1940, Hitler orders 60 German bombers to attack some British ships hence Battle of Britain has begun.
The pilots see something none of them are expecting. -Five squadrons of the RTS Fighter Command are already there to destroy Them. It was as if the British knew they were coming.
Leading the head on charge is the one plane that the pilots fear, -The super marine Spitfire. Spitfire was something which the Germans have only experienced as a combat adversary over Dunkirk, where it came as a bit of a shock because for the first time this was a fighter capable of meeting the Messerschmitt 109 on relatively equal terms. Everybody’s imagination.
The person running the Air Force intelligence agency was a man called Beppo schmid
Germany ignored the defense system, which was crucial in enabling Britain to defend itself from the air. He started to encourage the belief that the Luftwaffe could win.
Schmid’s biggest problem was that he essentially was always telling Goring what he wanted to hear. He wasn’t really interested in finding out the truth. And the picture that beppo Schmidt presents to Goring is one that was entirely inaccurate.
Soon Hitler gives out order to start preparation, if necessary carry out OPERATION SEA LION – An invasion on British soil.
He said that he was preparing this because the British for failing to come to Germany and prepares for invasion. And Hitler is still hoping that Churchill will come to his senses and sue for peace.
On the 19th of July, Hitler wants Britain to negotiate or meet the consequences.
August 1940. Hitler tells Goring to lay the groundwork for the total destruction of Britain’s fighter dependencies and operation the code names Eagle Day – It is to formed to go after southeast of London.
Over half of all Arial fighter commands playing on August the 13th Eagle day. Within hours surely already a Fighter Command ability to resist the loop will be destroyed.
Eagle Day is a series of master attacks on airfields in the south of England.
