Confession of horrors by a serbian soldier
At this point, Britain was the only great Country in Europe who has no take in the war.
Although it was certain Britain couldn’t just standby and watch Germany dominate Europe. For centuries,it has been the British article of fate that the balance of power- which denies absolute dominance and power to only one Nation in the continent of Europe.
Nothing Britain would have said would discourage Germany, because they have weighed the Britain military power and realized they were not as prepared as they are. A little British army can not influence this war from happening.
In July 1914, Britain called a great European conference to propose a peaceful settlement between the Austrian-Hungerian and the Serbs. But the Germans rejected the proposal .
For Germany to make an effective invasion on France, they would have go through the backdoor, through Belgium.
On the 2nd of August, the Germans offered an ultimatum to King Albert of Belgium, demanding passage for their army but King Albert flatly refused.
At this time, Belgium and Britain were in Alliance long before this feud started. So Belgium appealed for Britain’s assistance in occurance of any attack on them.
On the 4th of August 1914, after Germany rejected an ultimatum to leave Belgium alone, Britain declared war on Germany….
Reasons why Britain decided to join the war.
* They can’t allow Germany front herself as a dominant power in Europe.
They knew they had to fight, because their global position will definitely be threatened by the war.
And if they refuse to come to the aid of their allies, their allies would become their enemy.
*Germany disregards their international obligations, enters Belgium which was a neutral state and fails to reflect the international law and the rights of small Nations.
This concerns Britain because Britain depends on materials shipped in from other countries,so for them, international law is not only a sense of Legal and moral obligation, but also a matter of economic necessity.
Britain needs to exercise and hold international law on high esteem if they must continue to enjoy it’s international imports.
–within days, words in the newspapers decribes extensively, the horror unleashed by the German troops on the Belgium folks
The bombed propionate places in Belgium, raped and killed children and woman–taking their valuables and taking some of them as slaves. A town called *Dino* was destroyed and about 674 of it’s habitants were killed in cold blood.
Matching along, the German troops made entrance to Eastern France. In the first weeks of the war, about 650,000 civilians were executed by the German troops both in Belgium and France.
By early September the German troops moved through Belgium and went deep into Paris..
Germany is feeling lucky, she believes her victory is assured, then drew up a list of his country’s demands for a peace talk–
This list includes
Ceasing large size of land from both France and Russia , Make Belgium and Holland vessel states.
*The list also was designed to secure Germany absolute political and economic control over Europe.
The confidence of Germany was cut short when the France army made a great win in the second weeks of the war. They drove the German troops from the gates of Paris.
In October, the British forces together with the France allies match towards Yupres . This was a large troop. They were ready to battle head on with the enemy. The battle lasted for 5weeks and was the bloodiest of the battles during this war.
The battle was a victorious one for the British army but it was without a price.–about 56,000 British soldiers were either killed or wounded in a month of the war.
At this time, the professional British army was largely destroyed. Thereafter, civilians who volunteered were recruited.
In the summer of 1918, the allied forces finally broke the stalemate on the western front. With the British army taking more prisoners than others who fought in the war.
The Germans demoralized and defeated fell back.
About 10million soldiers– 900,000 of them from the British empire had lost their lives.
2months after the shooting stopped, a conference was held in Paris.the summit was to develop a treatiety to save Europe and to ensure there would not be another war in the future. The Germans were disarmed and were made to pay the cost of the conflict
