POST OPERATIVE CARE AND MANAGEMENT
Post operative bed must be made after
patient must have been taken to the theatre. After the operation the patient is
returned to the theatre. After the operation the patient is returned to the
ward on a stretcher or accompanied on foot.

POSITION: The patient should rest on his
back and later may be supported with one pillow as the condition permits.
Patient should not rest on the operated site.

VITAL
SIGN: Take vital sign and record any abnormality and report immediately.
Observe dressing site.

BED
REST: Patient is reminded to keep his head still and should remain on bed until
when allowed to move out
·
DIET:
Patient is given light nourishing food
·
PERSONAL
HYGIENE: Encourage patient to maintain personal hygiene.
Drugs and medication; Drugs would be
given mainly for the operated eyes. Any other medication you take before the
operation should be shown to your doctor for advice.
ADVICE ON DISCHARGE
- 1.) Avoid to lie down with the operated eye.
- 2.) Avoid lifting any heavy object or carry heavy things on your head
- 3.) Do not chew hard food after surgery. All food must be soft or smashed
- 4.) Avoid drinking alcohol or smoking cigarette
- 5.) Avoid playing with little children up close, so as to avoid their fingers puking into your eyes accidentally.
- 6.) Avoid strenuous activities such as sports.
- 7.) Don’t shout and avoid talking much during this healing period
- 8.) Avoid smoke or dust.
- 9.) Always clean your operated eyes with cotton wool when they are wet (eyedrop or tears, or discharge.
- 10.) Clean your face with your face towel after bathe, avoid soap entering into your eyes.
11 11.) If you experience any pain on the operated eyes, report to your doctor immediately.
12 12.) Always remember your scheduled appointments with your doctor and always come along with all your medications.
