THE RISE OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE (PART2)

Upon return to Rome, Cesar is faced with 2 crises.

– Crassus and Pompey (the two most influential persons in the entire Rome and commander of legions who aided in the fight against  Spartacus and his army). Fought for who was going to be Consul.

-The second crises was – Cesar’s wife was very ill, and it was not long before she gave up her ghost.

The issue before Crassus and Pompey was soon resolved as Cesar game up with a plan were 3 of them were allies and all benefited. Cesar propose that the both support him in becoming Consul, since they were the most influential senators and because both of them were fighting each other, none of them can be Consul.
But with their influence and money they can help make him Consul, that way he would help them get whatever they set out to get.
Cesar solidifies this plan by giving out his daughter to Pompey in marriage. That way they would remain allies for life.
CESAR was made Consul and everything went as it was initially planned, Cesar in many dubious ways ended up his own part of the bargain. He helped give Crassus some sort of means to make revenue and then he granted land to Pompey’s army.
This arrangement went on for years until Cesar’s ways with the senators made him unpopular amongst them. He would blackmail these senators to be on his side. Sometimes he’d get them beaten up by thugs just so they wouldn’t oppose him in the Senate.
Crassus and Pompey personally grew worried about Cesar’s approach towards matters. So they both decided to take their support from them.
Cesar was immediately removed as Consul and made Governor.
It was at this reduced position his hunger for power and glory increased, he wanted to do what no man in Rome has done.
Down to the North was a very verse settlement known as GAUL. Which is mordern day -France, Switzerland, and Belgium, Netherlands, and Switzerland and parts of Germany.
Cesar has thought to himself -that of he conquers Gual, he would be glorified in Rome and made a Hero, because he had done what others before him couldn’t achieve.
This was a great plot, to attack and take Gual but there was certain things that concerns Cesar as he takes  over 200,000 troop of soldiers to invade Gual.
– If he doesn’t emerge victorious in this battle he would be sentenced for treason back home, because he had overlooked the Senate and invaded a foreign land without their approval. And treason was an offense punishable by death
– He was also concerned because the Guals were savages stretched over 200,000 square miles, and where just made up of different clans. They have no autonomous authority.
